WhatsApp co-founder Brian Acton is leaving the Facebook-owned messaging application to begin his own non-profit business. Acton reported the decision on Facebook, of course:After eight years at WhatsApp, I have decided to move on and begin a new chapter in my life. I've decided to begin a non-profit focused at the intersection of nonprofit, tech and communications. Acton started whatsapp apps with CEO Jan Koum in 2009 after the pair had met working at Yahoo. Today, whatsapp apps is the world's most-used messaging application this day with over 1 bn every 30 days users, that's further than double the 450 mn it had at the date of the acquisition.

Just about 3 years after his company's acquisition with Facebook, Brian Acton has reported he's departing WhatsApp. Eight years ago Acton, along with Jan Koum, released the messaging application which this time counts further than a bn every day users, quickly spreading across many mobile platforms to innovate a worldwide society of users even in areas where Apple iOS and Android hadn't reached yet. Now, thanks to the "flexibility" from selling a firm for $22 bn (Forbes estimates his fortune at $6.5 billion) Acton is relleasing a non-profit which is "focused at the intersection of nonprofit, tech and communications." There are not a lot of specifics on his decision or exactly what going to come next, however it comes at a time the time whatsapp apps is moving on from its original form. Beyond squabbles with governments over encryption and privacy, the platform has added filesharing, mobile payments, case updates and acting as a communication tool for businesses.
