"Bloomberg" declare : Facebook Fined $122 Million for Misleading EU Over WhatsApp

As it stated in Facebook Inc. was fined 110 million euros ($122 million) by the European Union for misleading regulators during a 2014 review of the WhatsApp messaging-service takeover. EU data protection regulators also said Facebook must stop processing user data while they investigate the privacy changes. The fine from Europe's powerful antitrust authority caps months of probes from privacy regulators over the WhatsApp data move. The company informed the EU in 2014 it couldn't combine WhatsApp data with its other services but moved to do that last year. Vestager targeted Facebook after it announced privacy policy changes in August that would allow the advertising platforms on Facebook and Instagram to draw upon data from WhatsApp.

As it stated in According to regulators, Facebook claimed at the time to be unable to automatically link the accounts of both Facebook and WhatsApp users. Other large companies in the U.S., including Amazon, Google , and Microsoft, have been subject to antitrust investigations from European regulators. While the fine has no impact on the merger between Facebook and WhatsApp, it establishes a firm precedent for future acquisitions. By August 2016, however, WhatsApp announced that it would start sharing its data, including users' phone numbers, with Facebook. Last Friday, an Italian antitrust agency also announced they were fining WhatsApp for $3.3 million for requiring users to share their personal information with Facebook.
