Don't get caught out...A new scam is currently going around Ireland which claims to be from WhatsApp, but is actually a trojan virus. Cybersecurity company ESET have reported that emails have been circulating to users claiming to be from WhatsApp, and saying that you have an unread voice message. While you may be tempted to click on the link, you should resist this urge according to Urban Schrott, IT security and cybercrime analyst at ESET Ireland. "Clicking on the link will begin the download of a trojan that ESET detects as 'JS/Kryptik.BBC,'" said Schrott. AdvertisementWhatsApp users are advised not to click on any links such as the above, and log into WhatsApp the normal way to access voice messages.
Slowly but surely, the instant messaging giant has been adding some useful features. Currently WhatsApp is working on a new feature that will allow its users to download GIFs directly in its chat. The report comes from a Twitter user called @WABetaInfo, which is well known for its leaks on upcoming features of the instant messaging app. According to @WABetaInfo, the new feature was spotted on the beta builds (version 2.17.123) of WhatsApp on Android that highlights the latest feature. One can select the GIF and tap on it, which will bring a full-screen preview of the GIF along with the ability to adda caption.

The content of the mail reads 'New Voice message'. There's also a 'Play' button in the email for you to 'listen' to your message - which will download a trojan virus if you click on it. Cybercrime experts ESET Ireland said: "Clicking on the link will begin the download of a trojan... that usually redirects the browser to a malicious URL or implements a specific exploit." Trojan infections can expose the computer to ransomware and end up locking your files. WhatsApp users are advised to log into their accounts the standard way to check for any messages.
