Some WhatsApp admins have started posting disclaimer messages in their groups distancing themselves from responsibility over the contents of the chat. Malaysia is following similar moves made by India, which last week threatened to put WhatsApp group admins in jail if they fail to kick members who spread misinformation within the group. Experts last week warned French voters about the online dissemination of bogus news by dodgy accounts ahead of the French presidential elections. The country's government may use an existing law to investigate WhatsApp group admins if they fail to curb the distribution of fake news (factually incorrect or misleading information), said the country's Deputy Communications and Multimedia Minister Johari Gilani.
