821 SHARES Share TweetThe TurkeyBlocks monitoring network has detected restrictions on access to multiple social media services Facebook, Twitter and YouTube throughout Turkey beginning Friday Nov 04 2016 1:20AM local time, ongoing through into Friday afternoon.Restrictions on messaging services WhatsApp, Skype and Instagram have also now been detected, validating widespread user complaints about WhatsApp service failure in Turkey – the first time nationwide restrictions have been detected on the popular messaging apps in recent years.The incident is believed to be related to the detention of multiple leaders of opposition political party HDP, accompanied by raids of the HDP headquarters in Ankara.

Turkey has blocked access to several social media sites including Facebook and Twitter, according to an internet monitoring group in the country.Beginning Friday at around 1.20 a.m. local time, access was restricted for WhatsApp, Instagram, Facebook, Twitter and YouTube, TurkeyBlocks said.This was done by domestic internet service providers "throttling" – or slowing down – connection to these sites.

Turkey is reportedly blocking access to Twitter, Facebook, WhatsApp, and YouTube following the arrests of at least 11 pro-Kurdish politicians.According to Internet monitoring group Turkey Blocks, access to these sites has been throttled at the ISP level and is apparently affecting "the majority of Internet users."The current Internet user headcount in Turkey is understood to stand at more than 47 million out of a population just shy of 75 million.
