WhatsApp is slowly creeping toward a more Snapchat-like future.The messaging app, which rarely adds new features, added GIF support to its app Wednesday.The app now lets you browse and share GIFs from Giphy and Tenor and convert your video clips into GIFs within conversations.

WhatsApp has updated its messaging app on iOS with the ability to send and receive GIFs.Yeah, it's kinda late to the game – but it actually does a little more than just support animations.In addition to sending GIFs stored on your phone, you can also search Giphy's massive library (or Tenor's, in some countries) to find animations to pepper your conversations with.

Amid increased competition from Apple's iMessage, Snapchat, and Google's new entry Allo, Facebook-owned WhatsApp has now rolled out support for sharing GIFs in its messaging application on iOS.According to the app update text in iTunes, the new feature will allow users to send and receive GIFs, including Live Photos and shorter videos, both of which can be now converted to animated GIFs.For videos, the clip has to be six seconds or shorter, in order to be sent as a GIF.
