Getting added to a group chat on WhatsApp fills most of us with dread at the thought of endless notifications.Happily, it was easy to ignore them by setting them to mute while everyone else sent one sentence in 14 messages.But now a sneaky little update has just made it virtually impossible to avoid those chats - meaning the app is about to become the bane of your life.

Like Twitter, Instagram and other social apps, using the "@" symbol to tag someone will alert them.And yes, it will do so even if they've muted a conversation.While the change will make it more difficult to ignore the group chats you want no part of, it does seem useful.

Popular messaging service WhatsApp has enabled a feature allowing users to directly tag one another in group conversations, NDTV reported on Tuesday.The feature works in the same way as mentions on Facebook and Twitter do, the report said.Users will have to add a '@' sign in the messaging window after which a list comprising all the users in that particular conversation will appear.
